A memorial recording the names of the members of the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the Manchester Regiment who served during the Boer War of 1899 - 1902. They formed Volunteer Service Companies, along with comrades from the other 5 Volunteer Battalions, which were attached to the Regular 1st and 2nd Battalions.
This memorial was originally erected in the battalion's drill hall on Stretford Road. When this was demolished it was moved to the location seen here, University Barracks in Hulme.
